🌱 About the Producer / Supplier:
Our farm is located in Carmel Valley, California, just down the road from Earthbound Farm’s original 2.5-acre farm. A favorite organic food and garden destination for locals and out-of-town visitors, The Farm Stand is a living celebration of Earthbound Farm’s mission to bring the benefits of organic food to as many people as possible in the most delicious and inspiring way.
Earthbound Farms was founded in 1984 by Drew and Myra Goodman on a 2.5-acre (10,000 m 2 ) farm in Carmel Valley, California. Just over two decades later, the company employs more than 150 growers on 30,000 acres. By 2015, the production area was nearly 50,000 acres. In The Omnivore's Dilemma, Michael Pollan calls Earthbound Farm "arguably the best example of industrialized organic farming."
In 2009, HM Capital acquired Earthbound Farm. In 2013, Earthbound Farm was acquired by WhiteWave Foods, owner of Horizon Organic milk, for $600 million. In July 2016, French company Danone announced that it would acquire WhiteWave Foods for US$10.4 billion. The acquisition was completed in April 2017, and the newly established company was named "DanoneWave".

Product Description:Why is arugula called rocket lettuce?
The English name of arugula is very interesting. In North America, people usually call it arugula, but in the UK, Ireland, South Africa and other regions, it is called rocket, which literally means rocket. "Arugula" is a common lettuce in Western-style salads. The tender stems, leaves, flower buds and seeds are all edible. It has a slightly bitter taste with a mild spicy and sesame aroma, hence the name "rugula".
In fact, both the names arugula and rocket come from Italy.
The Italian name of arugula is "ruchetta", which is derived from the diminutive suffix of the Latin eruca (a vegetable similar to cabbage), which is somewhat similar to er, zi, zi in Chinese. So "rocket" in British English actually comes from the Italian name for arugula. In French, arugula is also called "roquette".
The customary "arugula" used in North America may come from the Italian Lombard dialect. In the dialect, arugula is called "arigola". This word was brought to North America with Italian immigrants, and after taking root, it became "arugula" with a pronunciation change.
Native to the Mediterranean region, arugula has been a commonly used medicinal herb since ancient Roman times. With the expedition of Roman soldiers, arugula was found everywhere from Turkey, Lebanon, and Syria in the east of the Mediterranean Sea to Morocco and Portugal in the west. Among them, the French and Italians like its unique flavor, and arugula is also widely used in many Italian-French dishes.
However, the English name for arugula is quite interesting. In North America, people usually call it arugula, but in the UK, Ireland, South Africa and other regions, it is called rocket, which literally means rocket. Therefore, some people in the Chinese world also call it "rocket dish" or "rocket lettuce".
