🛍 Product Information:
Binomial Name:
Chinese Name:蘆薈
Other Names:Aloe Vera
Product Description:The genus name Aloe is derived from the Arabic alloeh, meaning "bitter and shiny substance", or from the Hebrew אוהלם ahalim, plural אוהל ahal. The specific epithet vera comes from verus, which means "truth" in Latin.
It looks like a cactus and grows in hot and dry environments. The most practical parts are gel and latex. The gel is taken from the inside of the aloe vera leaf, and the latex is the part between the gel and the epidermis of the leaf.
Acetomannan from aloe vera, including body lotions, cosmetics, ointments, and gels for minor burns and skin abrasions.
It can be used as medicine and has the effects of clearing liver heat and laxative.
How to consume aloe vera
Many people wonder if it is edible, but in fact it is. Because it can sometimes produce a strong, unpleasant smell, I've found that the best way to consume aloe vera in recipes is through smoothies. This way you can literally mix it with any other ingredients you like and absorb all of its amazing benefits!
Once you remove the skin from the gel, you can eat it raw, but I prefer adding it to smoothies!
Variety:Aloe vera species can be subdivided into more than 200 species, but currently only six species have been found to have medical value and have been approved by the Department of Health to be peeled and eaten, including
Aloe africana, Aloe arborescens, Aloe ferox Mill, Aloe perryi, Aloe spicata, Aloe barbadensis.
The main aloe varieties with medicinal value include:
Aloe Vera (also known as Barbados Aloe or Aloe Vera Aloe Barbadensis/Aloe Vera) Aloe Vera of Curaçao (distributed in northern Africa and the West Indies), Aloe Vera of the Cape of Good Hope (distributed in southern Africa), Aloe Vera of Yuanjiang, etc.
Supply Season:The main production period is from November to April of the following year, and it is available in Hong Kong throughout the year.

#Should Be / Avoided:
Aloe vera extracts are widely used in cosmetics and alternative medicine. In view of the limited and often conflicting scientific evidence on cosmetic use and efficacy, the cosmetics and alternative medicine industries have instead advocated its soothing, moisturizing, healing and other effects.
Taking aloe vera extract by mouth can be dangerous because it can cause reactions that are not fully understood. It's especially dangerous for pregnant women; some people experience allergic reactions even when just applying aloe vera to their skin.
Research
Aloe vera's cosmetic and medicinal value is controversial, but it still appears in many consumer products.
Two reviews of clinical studies in 2009 determined that there was insufficient evidence to draw a strong conclusion, but stated: "There is preliminary evidence that oral aloe vera may reduce blood sugar in patients with diabetes and blood lipids in patients with hyperlipidemia. Topical application should not prevent radiation-induced skin lesions, and evidence for wound healing is conflicting. More and better detailed data are needed to make the clinical utility of this popular herb more precise."
A 2007 review of the use of aloe vera in burns and scalds stated that "accumulating evidence tends to support the effectiveness of aloe vera in healing first- and second-degree burns, and further well-designed testing is needed to obtain sufficient data to determine the efficacy of this product." Topical application of aloe vera May also be effective against genital herpes and psoriasis. A 2014 Cochrane review found no strong evidence to support the topical use of aloe vera in treating or preventing intravenous phlebitis.
Aloe vera gel is used commercially in yogurt, drinks and desserts. However, serious toxicity may occur at certain doses, whether taken orally or topically. The same goes for aloe vera's latex, which was used in the past for conditions such as glaucoma and multiple sclerosis until the U.S. Food and Drug Administration asked manufacturers to stop using it.
dietary supplements
Aloin is the exudate of the Aloe plant and was once a common ingredient in over-the-counter laxative products in the United States. It was not until 2002 that it was banned by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration because the manufacturing company failed to provide necessary safety information. Aloe vera is potentially toxic and may cause side effects when ingested or applied externally at certain doses. The toxicity may be reduced by removing aloin. Aloe vera juice is marketed to support digestive health, but there is no scientific evidence or regulatory approval. Toxic effects of extracts and typical uses of this type appear to be dose dependent.
traditional medicine
Aloe vera is traditionally used in a variety of skin treatments. In Ayurveda, extracts from the same genus Agave are called kathalai : pp. 196, 117. Early records of the use of aloe vera begin in the 16th century BC Ebers Papyrus : page 18, and in the mid-1st century AD in Diocolis' Treatise on Materia Medica and Pliny the Elder's Natural History : page 20, It is also recorded in the Viennese Deoklis of 512 AD : page 9. It is widely used in traditional herbal medicine all over the world.

Cooking Skills:Can aloe vera be used in cooking?
Yes! But it's important to clean and prepare your aloe vera gel correctly to get the best flavor and prevent possible tummy ache. Cut the aloe vera leaf lengthwise with a sharp knife and cut out slices of the gel inside. The gel has a yellow coating called "latex" that you need to remove. Latex has a bitter taste and is not healthy when consumed in large amounts, so try cutting off the excess and rinsing it off in the sink, being careful not to let the slippery gel fall out.

Thai Mango Shrimp Aloe Vera Salad
There’s nothing bland about this exotic salad—it’s so rich in flavor that it’ll help you refuel and effectively prevent the dreaded post-lunch brain fog.
raw material:
A large piece of aloe vera leaf gel, rinsed and cut into chopstick-sized noodles
1/2 a cucumber, spiralized
1 carrot, shredded
1 unripe mango, cut into thin strips
8–10 cooked large shrimps
1 handful basil, chopped
1 handful cilantro, chopped
2 tablespoons chopped peanuts
1 lime
1 tablespoon salt
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon sesame oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon chili flakes
2 tablespoons fish sauce
3 tablespoons sugar
½ teaspoon pepper
4 tablespoons rice vinegar
Place aloe vera "noodles" and 1 tablespoon salt in a bowl. Gently stir the noodles with your hands to salt them, then rinse them under the tap to remove the sticky coating.
Next, fill the bowl with ice and cold water. Squeeze the juice from one lime into an ice bath and toss in the remaining zest. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and blanch the aloe vera noodles for two minutes, then immediately transfer to a lime ice bath.
Notes:People with weak constitution or weak spleen and stomach should take it with caution. People who vomit after eating fresh aloe vera leaves, or cause severe abdominal pain and diarrhea should also avoid eating.
toxicity
There are no obvious side effects of topical aloe vera, but oral ingestion may cause abdominal pain and diarrhea, which can actually reduce the absorption of the drug. The International Agency for Research on Cancer found that aloe vera can cause cancer in animals and said it may also be a carcinogen in humans.
Since 2016, aloe vera whole leaf extract has been classified as a possible human carcinogen (Group 2B) by the International Agency for Research on Cancer.
