🛍 Product Information (Main) (English):

Binomial Name:Citrus maxima

Chinese Name:文旦柚 | 麻豆文旦

Other Names:Wendan Pomelo from Madou

🌕 During the Mid-Autumn Festival, it is suitable for both self-use and gift-giving during the festival.

Product Description:Madou Wendan is a cultivated variety of pomelo in the subtropical citrus. It was introduced to Taiwan from Zhangzhou, Fujian in the 40th year of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty (AD 1701). It was not planted in Madou Town in the early days, but in Chiayi, Yilan and other areas. In the 53rd year of Qianlong (1788) in the Qing Dynasty, it was cultivated in Andingli where it lived, and the Wendan fruit with a special sweet taste was obtained. Around the end of Daoguang (1850), Madouqian, after 5 or 6 years of careful management, the cultivated fruit It was better than the original ones of the Huang family. Later, Guo Yao’s son Guo Jiu (1855-1925) continued to manage them. The ones grown in front of the residential courtyard were especially top-grade. They were propagated using high-pressure urn soil, and quickly spread to the whole town to become a famous Madou product. Because the pomelo grown in Madou Town has softer and juicier pulp than the original producer, it has a special flavor. After agreement by local people, it was named "Madou Wendan", and it has been used as the variety name since then.

It is generally harvested before the Mid-Autumn Festival and used as a gift for worshiping the moon and presenting to relatives and friends.

Pomelo is rich in protein, vitamin B1, B2, C, P, dietary fiber, calcium, phosphorus, iron, citric acid and other nutrients, and the content of vitamin C is quite high. According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), every 100 grams of pomelo contains 61 mg of vitamin C, which is 1.5 times that of lemons and 7 times that of apples! The rich vitamin C can help anti-oxidation, enhance immunity, reduce blood cholesterol levels, and promote the absorption of calcium and iron. In addition, vitamin P, which cannot be synthesized by the human body and needs to be ingested from the diet, also exists in large quantities in pomelo; it can help increase the absorption rate of vitamin C, promote wound healing, reduce hardening of blood vessels, and achieve the effect of beautifying and beautifying.

The reason why eating grapefruit can help digestion is because grapefruit is rich in water, dietary fiber and citric acid, which can help break down glucose in food, promote digestion, and help smooth bowel movements. The peel contains a large amount of flavonoids such as naringin, limonene, and β-myrcene. Especially the peel of Huazhou pomelo is called Maozihong. After peeling off the inner skin and drying it in the sun, it is used as a throat reliever such as cough medicine, and a medicine for improving anorexia.

Not all pomelo, only grapefruit (strictly speaking, grapefruit is not a species of pomelo, but a natural hybrid of pomelo and orange [8]) can cause adverse reactions when taken together with some drugs.

Grapefruit will enhance or counteract the effects of many common drugs (such as cardiovascular drugs, blood lipid-lowering drugs, anti-rejection drugs for organ transplants, etc.), allowing the drug to accumulate in the body to increase the concentration and prolong the residence time, just like an overdose , Drugs change from beneficial to harmful, resulting in easy side effects, and even death in severe cases.

Storage Method:

[Time to eat Wendan]

The freshly picked Wendan fruit has hard flesh and is left at room temperature for a period of time. When the skin shrinks and the color changes from green to yellow, it means that the "water removal" (commonly known as water elimination) process is completed. At this time, all the sweetness is concentrated in the soft fruit. The pulp has the best flavor!! It can be stored for about a month after being harvested in a ventilated place.

【Full use of Wendan】

The pulp is eaten raw or peeled and used as a cooking ingredient. If you can't finish eating, you can freeze the pulp and keep it fresh until the end of the year.

Cut off the white part of the peel, cut it into strips and dry it in the sun. After lighting it, it becomes a natural mosquito coil + incense
