About Eva's Farm
Our food principle
We believe thatfood does not have to travel hundreds of kilometers to get to yourtable and that nutritious vegetables and fruits can be grown locally. Using ‘regenerative soil’ allows us to produce low-carbon andchemical-free food. As a farm, we also collaborate with a localnon-profitable organization to educate young people on, growingseasonal food, and composting and using soil regeneration method.
Who are we?
A small familyorganic farm in the North district of Hong Kong using ‘Regenerativesoil’ farming technique. For the past three years, we have beenrestoring the soil quality, ecosystems, and biodiversity of thesurrounding land. With the assistance, advice, and guidance from Ms.Josephine Mak a Regenerative Farming Educator and Soil Health Expert,we can produce seasonal local fruits and vegetables using nochemicals. While producing nutrient-rich food and reducing our carbonfootprint.
What isRegenerative soil farming?
Regenerative soilfarming is a sustainable approach to land management. By using thepower of photosynthesis in plants to expropriate carbon in the soil, thus improving soil health, crop yield, nutrient density, and pestresilience crops. Our practices include:
Cover cropping (using leaves or grass cuttings)
Composting
Reducing or No-till farming practices (to keep good bacteria in the soil)
Growing seasonal crops
As a result, thevegetables and fruits grown are high in nutrients and healthier forconsumption. In addition, we use a hands-on approach to producing ourcompost, pest control, and plant food.
Where do weget our compost matters?
We work togetherwith the local parks, and businesses to collect fallen leaves, grasscuttings, shrubs from local parks, coffee grounds, soy, walnut andalmond pulp, mushroom compost, unwanted fruits, and vegetables forcomposting. Our growing practice does not use any animal manure. Inturn reducing, natural waste going to the landfill and buildingcommunity cooperation.
How do wecontrol pests?
We do not use anyform of chemical pest control but natural methods such as:
Protecting seedlings and mature plants with mesh
Picking off insects by hands
Hanging bug and small insect control repellent stickers
Planting mixed herbs and vegetables
Encourage helpful micros into the soil to protect the roots and plants
What type ofplant nutrient do we use?
Even with‘regenerative soil’ growing, certain vegetables still requireplant nutrients. Our plant feeds are from natural sources.
Using fresh fish to produce our liquid fertilizer (only used on certain crops)
Using molasses, rice water, and baking soda, magnesium powder, or banana skin as liquid fertilizer, yeast from fermented milk (for pest control)
Using finely ground eggshells for calcium
Organic fertilizer pellets made from bamboos and plant matters
Where can youpurchase our products?
We only sell what isin season and what is currently growing on the farm.
