Trepunti – the Best and the Most Special Sicilian Food

Food is the reason for Jennifer to leave Hong Kong;

Food is the cause that links her up with Sicily

Trepunti represents organic farmers in Sicily. Trepunti is founded by Jennifer, a Hongkonger who farms along with her Italian husband in Sicily.  They not only sell high-quality Sicilian fruits but tries to tell their stories in order to connect the consumers with food.

Their small-scale family farm cultivate a range of organic crops, from olive to lemons, the famous Sicilian lemon. The farm is located near Mount Etna, where the soil is rich with minerals. Together with the mild climate and seaside temperance, the farm is ideal for a diverse collection of food. Its lemon trees are over seventy years old and produce fruits like clockwork, fragrant lemons the size of your fists that burst with brimming juice. But these fruits do not come easy, for it is not easy to import food halfway across the world.

She went to Italy to find her own life and met Guido, a Sicilian farmer (now her husband). He and his father owned a small organic orchard in Sicily, where dozens of varieties of fruits were grown. Through their farming life, they build communities with like-minded people that are complementary to each other. Although farming in Sicily is not easy, the orchards have to face endless problems, not only to prevent thieves in the town and dealing with bureaucratic taxes, but also to face the seasons when the weather is not as expected, and even the problems of the agricultural mafia.

Facing the impact of agriculture and other parts of Italy. They take advantage of consumers' opaque approach to the product supply chain, piracy, cutting corners, stealing fake labor, etc., which are very serious to local small farmers. We cannot rely on the government to protect farmers. As a result, farmers have established communities, established relationships with local and foreign customers, increased the supply chain, increased revenue, and allowed consumers to distance themselves from product sources and production, or visit the farms in person to understand farmers’ wishes and methods.

Therefore, they brought their own Sicilian livestock to Hong Kong, hoping to share the Sicilian agricultural products with everyone, and also share the food with everyone.

Why are Sicilian fruits so amazing? The answer lies with its geography and climate. Located in Europe's biggest active volcanic area, its soil is fertile and rich. The height of the volcano creates a stark difference from the altitude, which in turn makes the temperature drop drastically at night. Different fruits can be grown in short intervals, from tropical fruits like papayas and avocadoes to temperate ones like pear and grapes. The geological advantages brought to Jennifer's farm result in the ability to grow numerous types of fruits. Moreover, the best production grounds of blood oranges is in Sicily.

The orchard is small with too many types of fruits to count. Its hills and valleys perfectly reflect the bluntness of the Italian, and encapsulate the bond between man and nature. Sicilian farms pride themselves on their reverence for fruits and cultivation methods. It is precisely for this reason that Italian food retains its high quality. To the untrained eye, these fruits are rough in exterior and in unsightly shapes. Some have legs, while others have twisted fronts, all quite different from those you see in supermarkets. But do not fear–this is the way organic fruits are supposed to be, free from the meddling of genetic modifications. When you taste their flesh and the juices spill over your lips, you will realize that they taste as good as any other, if not more.

Trepunti's organic farmers thrive to connect you with the best Sicilian food.
