Eva's Farm

Growing Tasty, Delicious crops at Eva's Farm

Farmer Eva and her husband are one of a kind regenerative farmers who care deeply about the health of the planet and its people. They first learnt about regenerative farming from Homeland Green, and were fascinated by the vastness of living organisms underground and how it is essential for healthy crops. After their retirement, they have been inspired to use their farm to demonstrate how regenerative farming practices can be applied.

Prior to shifting the farm to fully regenerative, Eva followed the organic certification of farming and unfortunately did not see improvements in the nutritional value of her crops. After understanding how important planned composting was, she has been dedicating her time to retrieving woody materials and green waste from her and her neighbours’ kitchens for her compost piles, learning to become more resourceful along the way. By creating more circularity in her farm operation, keeping her soil covered and 100% free of chemicals, she’s received the fruitful rewards of growing more delicious, biodiverse and nutritious crops that all of her customers praise.

Eva’s regenerative farm still faces lots of challenges such as ‘visits’ from wild animals and the increasingly volatile weather. However, she has noticed that since transitioning her farm to regenerative, her crops have become more resilient to the longer and hotter summer weather in Hong Kong. Eva and her team are always learning and staying creative, collaborative and resourceful. As an example, most of the soil nutrient inputs they use are now homemade, home-fermented or home-composted! According to Eva, “growing crops is like taking care of a baby, that’s why we live next to the farm and we are constantly taking good care of them!” Her farm proves that growing delicious and nutritious ingredients doesn't require fancy technology or artificial inputs  - all it takes is a bit of heart and an understanding of natural processes.
